Architectural Design 1 was probably one of the most difficult courses I've ever taken. My transition from pre-university studies to degree was definitely not the smoothest, and I did not expect it to be as demanding as it was. Because of this, I unfortunately did not score as high for my first project. However, I believe that I adjusted to the standard of work I am supposed to produce. For every next project, I worked harder and harder to prove myself. I am hoping that all my hard work and time pays off, because although it is extremely demanding, I truly do enjoy studying architecture. I enjoyed brainstorming ideas while still respecting the project requirements, adjusting my work according to my tutor’s feedback, and model making. I was allowed to express my creativity through each project, and I can say I definitely learned a lot.
Discipline Specific Knowledge → I utilize my knowledge on theories regarding architectural elements and principles to create my own designs.
Thinking and Problem-Solving skills → I thought critically & creatively on how to express my ideas. In addition, I was able to effectively solve problems I encountered during the design process and model-making.
Lifelong Learning → I was independent when I conducted my own personal research on elements and principles, ergonomics & anthropometrics, and construction materials. I utilized this information to effectively incorporate it whilst completing each project.
I appreciated the fact that I was able to virtually contact my tutor at almost any time regarding an issue or to receive feedback. In addition, I enjoy being able to participate in hybrid learning, as it is super convenient. My tutors ensured that we were on campus when the occasion called for it, and that it was online when physical activities were not on the agenda.
I am grateful to say that I was able to be tutored by Ar. Lim Wey Shan & Ar. Chang Yan Yee. Both lecturers were extremely helpful, and I learned a lot from their experiences. I especially appreciate that they would always tend to my many questions, no matter how tedious it was.
