Structure & Body: Material, Anthropometric & Ergonomic Exploration

Project 2 required us students to collaboratively design and construct a 1: 1 scale bamboo shading structure to be displayed on campus. Here, we explored architectural elements and principles with anthropometry and ergonomics and executed it into a physical structure within 3 weeks.

Intentions

Create a space for university students to relax in between their hectic schedules. To introduce anthropometry, ergonomics, and their relationship to form and space, as well as to raise awareness of them. introduce fundamental concepts of structure in general, design fundamentals, and architectural jargon as they relate to space and form configuration. to develop a structure installation while comprehending the material, space quality, human scale, and articulation form.

Reflection

Project 2 was a bit challenging, as I didn't really know most of the people in my group. In addition, it was difficult to include everyone's ideas in the design process, as we all had a variety of different methods to carry out the project. However, all of my group mates were very hardworking, and showed up everyday to work on the bamboo structure. I am glad to have helped with the design process, be in charge of the research team, as well as the weaving of the final structure. Although very labor intensive, it was a fun project to complete!
