Preliminary Studies

In our allocated tutorial groups, we had to conduct a 'Townscape Assessment' to assess the nature of a location and its architecture for place-making purposes. The goal of this project is to assess the character, identity, and uniqueness of a town and urban region in order to find chances for creating responsive architecture design within an urban context and place-making-led urban space on the specified site.

'The Paradox that is Pudu.'

Many of Pudu's socio, physical, & cultural factors bear characteristics that almost directly contradict each other. Whether it's tradition vs modernity, authenticity vs development, positive or negative perception, Pudu is very polarizing, as it's a place where seemingly opposing elements coexist amicably. For us, it's a paradox in this sense. Not to say that Pudu is a perfect harmonious place, but we believe the positives of these differences heavily outweigh the negatives. We believe you could ask anyone about a specific thing regarding Pudu, and more often that not, the answers will contradict each other.

Reflection

Project 1 was relatively a difficult one to complete, as we had such a short period of time. Not only did we have to come up with the structures, we also had to conduct research, create poems, study precedents, poetic architecture, concentric & linear architecture, and so much more. It was so draining to lead and be responsible for a large group of people while also tackling the project.  In addition, I found myself having to complete my group's delegated tasks because i didn't have the heart to tell them their work was rejected by our tutors. Overall, i am grateful to have been placed in such a competent group, and i am satisfied with our end product.
