The Discovery Center for Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest
For the final project, we had to design a structure for users to 'discover' about the people, place, activities, culture, history etc. associated to Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest. Emphasis is placed on a strong engagement and relationship to the site, people, culture, history, spatial experiences, and programmatic requirements.
Narrative
In a place where forest meets shore, a community is formed around the heart that is Tanjung Tuan. A complex system that highlights the interconnectedness of each element, their livelihoods intricately woven together & in constant interaction. Everyone plays their part, recognizing their place within the ecosystem. But beyond their individual links, the connection to Tanjung Tuan is the life-line for every element. It serves as the main linkage, a silent yet powerful force that shapes the community in every single way.
The Linkage aims to highlight the surrounding community’s dependence on Tanjung Tuan. A prelude to entering the actual forest, the structure simulates traversing through the interconnected layers of a forest. Every space is linked to one another, creating a sense of belonging within visitors as they unfold the mysteries and tales of Tanjung Tuan.

Project 2B was a big jump from my last semester's final project. It was quite stressful to think about so many different things and create this structure in such a short period of time. I can recall many sleepless nights and working day to night during this project. In addition, i had to learn so many new software with limited time, ranging from Revit, Autocad, photoshop, illustrator, etc. Despite the struggles, i had so much fun designing a structure that embodies the site's genius loci. I loved creating poetic spaces expressive enough to move people emotionally. At this point, i am much more comfortable with poetic architecture, and will definitely be taking what i learned with me for the rest of my architectural journey.
