Project 3: Designing with Architectural Principles, Materiality, Context and User
For our final project, we had to design a tropical wildlife discovery unit to be built at a local park, Bukit Jalil Recreational Park. The structure must respond to the immediate site, as well as cater to us and another user for a comfortable 2-3 day stay.
Intentions
For as long as I can remember, my father has always advocated for a simple life. to focus less on modernization, & to embrace tradition. For him, a composed & healing environment has always been paramount. The 'Tree Trunk House' captures mother nature's essence by creating spaces in which internal & external are no longer distinguishable. Reclaimed tree trunks are the main structural support, & the vitality of it's role is an homage to how integral nature & the serenity it brings is to me & my father's life. It is a healing space; substantial openings allow natural lighting to permeate every part of the structure. It follows the datum of the slope it rests on, promoting stability through its regularity, continuity, & constant presence.

Reflection
I honestly had so much fun completing this final project. I applied everything I learned from the hardships in my past few projects and it was a very big advantage for me. I felt like I finally knew what I was doing, and that boosted my confidence a lot. It was interesting to figure out different methods to strategically respond to my site, as well as including features my father would approve of. I am especially grateful for how much effort my tutor Ms. Alina put into helping me. I can recall spending hours with her, discussing small details and answering all my tedious questions, to which she did with a smile on her face. I learned so much from this project that i will definitely take with me for the rest of my journey in architecture. I would do it all over again if I could!
